The conference,
The Community and State Interests in Small-Scale Mining:
Sharing Experiences in Asia-Pacific Region, provided a forum for participants from
the host country (Philippines) and other countries of the
Asia-Pacific region to share their knowledge and experience of
some of the key achievements and ongoing issues surrounding artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) in the region. Discussions will
be outcome oriented, focusing on three key themes:
- ASM as part of local
sustainable livelihood strategies
- Government policies for
enabling ASM - what is and is not working
- Opportunities for
constructive action - who can be doing what?

Communities
and Small-Scale Mining
Began as a
multi-donor networking and coordination facility that
would engage with practicing miners, their associations
and communities, governments and non-governmental
organizations, and development assistance agencies.
A Learning Event is one of the three main parts of
CASM's programs. CASM funds and or support workshops and
conferences on artisanal and small-scale mining to bring
together stakeholders to develop and transfer strategies
for dealing constructively with the social,
environmental and technical challenges posed by
artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) and for
maximizing the development potential of these activities
where they are being practiced. |
