A forum-workshop entitled “Laguna De Bay Mapping of
Environment-Related Initiatives – A Workshop to Plan for Climate
Change Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies” was held on
November 28, 2007 at the Conference Room of the Ortigas Building, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. It
brought together Planning and Development Officers
(PDOs) from the lakeshore towns in Laguna de Bay to:
| - |
determine environment-related activities and programs that are being
undertaken in the lakeshore cities/municipalities; |
| - |
learn about the science of climate change and the basic tools and
approaches that can be used to integrate climate change concepts
into local planning processes, i.e. Land Use Plan; |
| - |
to
identify gaps in activities, projects and policies related to
environmental conservation in general, and if possible, climate
change in particular, within the Lakeshore towns that need to be
addressed; |
| - |
to
create a network and database of individuals and institutions
working for the wise use of Laguna de Bay’s environment for future
networking and partnerships; |
| - |
to
formulate recommendations for future steps that can be done by the
local government units with regards to climate change adaptation and mitigation at the
local level |
At
the end of the workshop, after the above objectives
are accomplished, the next step will be the creation of a
GIS-based map of initiatives within the
lakeshore communities of Laguna de Bay which will help CLEAR in making
strategic decision about their activities in Laguna de Bay.

lake monitoring by Lumban CLEAR youth network |
|
An orientation-meeting was held on 01 September 2007 at the
Municipal Hall of Lumban to jumpstart the lake monitoring activity
(Community Lake Monitoring Network) in Lumban. The CLMN aims
to harness the youth in providing alternative monitoring
data on water quality of Laguna de Bay which would
complement the monitoring activities being done by the
Laguna Lake Development Authority.
The meeting,
which was attended by thirteen students from various schools in the
municipality, was hosted and coordinated by the municipal government
of Lumban. A briefing-orientation on the CLMN was conducted
during the meeting, and the use of secchi disc was
demonstrated, as well as how to record monitoring data.

Day for Biological Diversity, did a three-poster exhibit on
the Report - "Climate Change: An Overview and Its Impact on
the Living Lakes". The Report was prepared for the
Living Lakes Network by Tyndall Centre for Climate Change
Research of United Kingdom. It has an overview of
climate change and a series of analyses conducted for each
