Since its incorporation in 1992, REECS has provided
expertise in the conduct of interdisciplinary research, economic analysis, policy study, resource planning and
management, project planning and implementation, technical assistance,
training programs and consultancy services. Working as an interdisciplinary
team in range of projects in the environmental and natural resources field,
it pioneered the introduction of environmental accounting and application
of resource economics as a 'decision tool' for improving the
environment and natural resources conditions in the Philippines.
REECS
specializes in discerning environment-economic
interactions and in strengthening associated institutions which are done within a holistic
framework. Its work has generated information used to recommend changes in
the current
environmental and natural resources policy regime. These policies,
in effect, have enabled the implementation of policies
and programs in the field of environment and natural resources.
REECS has extensive experience on watershed
planning and management, resource pricing and design of economic
instruments such as pollution charges and user fees, coastal
management, valuation studies, and environment and natural
resource accounting. One of the areas where REECS has comparative
advantage is in the field of environmental service payments. REECS
advocates the institutionalization of a system that will pay the
providers of environmental services for their activities along
this line. |
