RAPID SITE ASSESSMENT |
|
| |
Duration: October 2007 to May 2008
Client: Foundation for the Philippine
Environment (FPE) |
| |
This project is being conducted to gather and update
baseline information in FPE project sites and to
upgrade FPE’s Rapid Site Assessment protocol. This
is expected to facilitate the gathering of
meaningful data that will cater to the
organization’s specific needs and in turn contribute
to its successful management of projects. Its
specific objectives are to obtain:
|
|
Assigned tasks include:
 |
a standardized set of biodiversity data and
information that will be useful for existing project
inventory and profiling; future baseline monitoring;
future project development; and as important inputs
to the Area Development and Management Plan (ADMP); |
 |
an updated set of previous data and information,
whenever past data is available; and |
 |
an improved rapid site assessment protocol that FPE
can use as a standard in future RSAs. |
The project includes the conduct of RSA of FPE’s
existing 19 site-focused projects. Out of the 19
sites, six were assigned to REECS as follows: (1)
Abra and Kalinga, (2) Bolos Point, Cagayan, and (3)
Mount Banahaw, Biak-na-Bato, Mount Bulusan. Major
RSA activities include the review of all pertinent
data and information and documents about the project
sites in the specific cluster areas; identification
of and collaboration with local (community-level)
research partners; and preparation of detailed data
and information gathering design, in consultation
with FPE and local research partners.

| COORDINATION AND ANALYSIS OF RAPID RURAL APPRAISALS |
|
| |
Duration: October 2007 to March 2008
Client: Department of Energy (DOE) |
|
|
|
The project is part of the second phase of the
DOE-implemented Accelerating Community Electricity
Services Using Solar (ACCESS) of the Rural Power
Project (RRP), which aims to speed up the total
barangay electrification thrust of government by
developing the market for solar photovoltaic (PV)
systems using the Sustainable Solar Market Packages
(SSMP) approach.
The project provided baseline information by
conducting rapid rural appraisal (RRA) and market
surveys in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. RRA Teams
were engaged to do field investigations in
identified areas. As RRA Coordinator, REECS
processed the results gathered by the RRA teams.
Specifically, REECS was tasked to guide, coordinate,
prepare reports on field methodologies and data
collection, and provide quality assurance in the
conduct of RRA.
