WETLANDS SOCIETY RECEIVES SPECIAL FUNDING
TO CLEAN-UP LAGUNA DE BAY

The Youth of Laguna de Bay Region will be the beneficiary of a project to be implemented by the Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands, Inc. with funding support from The UPS Foundation.  Laguna de Bay is the major lifeline of more than 10M people living in its basin, including most of Metropolitan Manila.  About 70% of the pollution in the lake comes from domestic sources.  This project will harness the potentials of the Youth through activities that will promote innovative and cost-effective means of managing their domestic wastes.  The grant will also provide incentives to innovative projects implemented by the Youth that will decrease pollution in the lake from household sources.  The project will be implemented in the municipalities of Angono, Binangonan and Pateros, and in the cities of Muntinlupa and Taguig.

The Launching of the Project will be held in Kabisera ng Dencio's (Bonifacio Global City, City of Taguig) at 5:00 in the afternoon of 23 February 2009.  This will be attended by the mayors, planning and development officers, head of schools, and Sangguniang Kabataan leaders of the aforementioned lakeshore cities and municipalities.
