Fish for Tomorrow, the theme this year
is one that touches everyone... it is making sure that
there will be fish for the future.
That
is the message that the Wetlands Caravan was
promoting to Taal Lake.
A public hearing / consultation was held on 25 & 26 January
2007 in the towns of Sta. Teresita and Talisay,
respectively had discussed the proposed Unified Rules
and Regulations for Fisheries on Taal Volcano Protected
Landscape. The event had marked the celebration of
the World Wetlands Day 2007.

The Wetlands Caravan aimed to work with the communities
in achieving the Ramsar Convention's goal through localized
action plans that will help catalyze change in the people's
behavior towards wetlands.
The
Wetlands Caravan: The Evolving CEPA Action Plan for the Wise Use of Philippine Wetlands was
launched simultaneously on 02 February 2006 at the Visitors' Center of the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife
Nature Center (North Ave., Quezon City) and in Tawi-Tawi.

The Wetlands Caravan
made its first stop at Laguna de Bay on 23 May 2006.
CLEAR had brought together stakeholders from lakeshore
communities of Cavinti, Lumban, Lucban, Magdalena,
and Pagsanjan to exchange information and discuss emerging issues
relevant to the conservation of Laguna de Bay. It focused on
Ecotourism in the area as an opportunity for sustainable
livelihood.

Its second
stop was in
TawiTawi. On 19 & 20 September 2006, the
TawiTawi Economic and Environment Summit
was held in Bongao. The gathering was held aiming to
harmonize, consolidate, integrate economic and
environmental framework plan to serve as developmental
direction of the province of TawiTawi.

The
CLEAR Ecological Camp graduates from the
municipalities of Tanay, Los Ba�os and Lumban,
and cities of Muntinlupa and San Pablo
gathered again to share knowledge and
experiences in their lake conservation efforts.
The CLEAR Youth Network Congress this
year was held in Punta Verde Resort &
Convention Center (Pansol, Calamba, Laguna) on
14-15 July 2007.
Last year, the CLEAR Youth Network
Congress was held on 03 June 2006 at the University of Rizal System
campus in Tanay, Rizal. Coinciding with the celebration of the UN World Environment Day
and the Philippine Environment Month, the CLEAR Ecological Camp
graduates from the municipalities of Tanay, Los Ba�os and Lumban,
and Muntinlupa City gathered
to strengthen the youth partnership and plan
common activities towards conservation of Laguna de Bay. It was followed by seed collection activity at the URS campus.

Our youth partner from Los Ba�os, the Youth
Circle, had initiated the conduct of the Community Lake Monitoring Network
in their municipality. A workshop on CLMN was held
on 19 September 2006 among the members of the
organization, and their first sampling was done on 14
October 2006. This was undertaken under the
supervision of Ms. Jennifer Sunga, the adviser/moderator
of YC. This was a follow-through activity of the
CLEAR Youth Network which aimed at harnessing the
potential of lakeshore communities in monitoring the
water quality of Laguna de Bay. It also aimed to
help increase the awareness of the community of the
importance of the lake in their daily lives.

On 05 August 2006, the Kilos Kabataan Para sa Lawa
graduates in Muntinlupa City started their 8-week sampling
- monitoring the water quality of Laguna de Bay. Undertaken under the supervision of Ms. Yvonne Alba,
the adviser/moderator of Young
Science Enthusiasts of Pedro E. Diaz High School of Muntinlupa
City, 35 student members of YSE took part in the first water sampling
for CLEAR Community Lake Monitoring Network.

An
eco-camping was held on
18 to 20 April 2006 for the youth of Lumban, Laguna. Aiming to increase awareness and involvement of
the youth in the conservation and protection of Laguna de Bay, fifteen high school students from
three schools of Lumban participated in the camping.

A second
eco-camping was held the same year on 25 to 27 October 2006
for the youth of San Pablo City.
Twenty-nine high school students from
various schools in the city participated in the camping.

was hosted by China on
29 October to 03 November 2006 at Nanchang City.
