The 7th Living Lakes
Conference was held on 20 to 25 August 2001 at Johannesburg, South Africa, the
week before the World Summit on Sustainable Development. The theme of the
conference was "Implementation of Agenda 21 in Lake Regions".
The Philippine delegation representing Laguna de Bay was composed of Ms. Amy Lecciones of
the Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands, Ms. Jika
Mendoza-Dalupan and Mr. Chito Macapagal of the Unilever Philippines, and Ms.
Lennie Borja of the Laguna Lake Development Authority. |

in the Data Mining Workshop

The CLEAR partners
participated in a Data Mining Workshop organized by Unilever PLC
in cooperation with Global Nature Fund.
The workshop, which was held in London on 13-14 June 2002, aims to develop a dynamic
toolkit based initially on the shared 4-year experience and know-how gathered in joint
Living Lakes projects between Unilever companies and NGOs since 1998.
The toolkit will serve as a guide
to NGOs and Unilever companies committing to new Living Lake partnerships, helping them to
implement best practices.

"Laguna de Bay, A Lake for Life"

A big gathering, dubbed as the
"Laguna de Bay, a Lake for Life" Stakeholders
Conference", was held on the 4th of July 2002 at the National Arts Center in Mount
Makiling. This launched the information campaign among the Laguna de Bay
stakeholders. The campaign aims to encourage the active support and cooperation of
all stakeholders in the conservation of Laguna de Bay.
Attended by stakeholders from various groups, government agencies and organizations, the
gathering was graced by the presence of Rep. Joaquin Chipeco of the 2nd District of Laguna
who took the lead in the ceremonial reading of pledges of the attendees.

|
 To
celebrate the WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY on 05 June 2002, CLEAR, in
cooperation with the local government of Tanay, Rizal, held a Stakeholders Conference on
"Laguna de Bay, A Lake for Life". The conference, which was
opened by Mayor Tom Tanjuatco, was part of the roadshow information campaign for the
conservation of Laguna de Bay.
Also presented during the conference was the
Community
Lake Monitoring Network which is going to be a cooperative program combining
the technical resources of CLEAR and the volunteer efforts of the communities of Tanay and
other lakeshore communities of Laguna de Bay to collect water quality data of their
respective side of the lake.

with the River Basin Councils

In a meeting
held on 13 February 2002 at the Laguna Lake Development Authority Office, the Federation
of River Basin Councils in the Laguna de Bay Region agreed to join with the CLEAR
partners in the intensive environmental education and campaign in the lakeshore towns and
industries. The first
collaborative activity with the federation is the roadshow which is one of the CLEAR
activities planned for the year. The roadshow will be launched in April 2002 with a big gathering of
representatives from stakeholders.

in the World Wetlands Day celebration
|
|
A Literary and Musical Night that paid tribute to humanity and its long time relationship
with wetland ecosystems was held at the Likha-Diwa sa Gulod on 02 February 2002
to celebrate the World Wetlands Day. To illustrate this
relationship and communicate its importance, the cultural night featured numbers such as
musical numbers from local artists, poetry reading of literary pieces inspired by
wetland ecosystems, showing of film clips, and photo exhibit. CLEAR
joined the celebration by showing its film clip entitled "Laguna de Bay in
Focus" and participated in the photo exhibit featuring "Laguna de Bay, a Living
Lake".
