Conservation of Laguna de Bay's Environment and Resources

Lake Forum Series

          Over the years, the Laguna de Bay has been subjected to both natural and anthropogenic pressures.  As a result, the ecological integrity of the lake has suffered and has affected its ability to bounce back to its original condition.

          This reality has prompted the government and other sectors of society to give attention to how the lake is being managed.  Aside from efforts coming from the authorities, many groups have recognized their stake on the lake and thus have initiated various efforts contributing to its conservation and management.  However, these efforts have been fragmented and uncoordinated thus, missing out on a great opportunity for synergism.

          Cognizant to this, the CLEAR partnership launched a series of fora that brings together the different stakeholders to discuss common concerns and to have the opportunity to learn what each one is doing as far as lake conservation and management is concerned.  It is envisioned that the activity will generate local best practices that can be shared and replicated.

objectives
To provide a venue for discussion of issues and concerns for consensus building among stakeholders;
To provide a mechanism for generating information that can be shared among stakeholders;
To be one of the means of connecting people to expand, strengthen and sustain partnership among Laguna de Bay stakeholders;
To have an alternative mechanism fro inputting to the review and formulation of policies concerning the conservation and management of Laguna de Bay.

organization of a steering committee

          To ensure the success of the Lake Forum Series, a core group of stakeholders was organized into a Steering Committee to provide policy direction to the activity.  The Committee, which was organized on 18 March 2004, is composed of Mr. Joey Cariño of the Laguna Lake Development Authority, Engr. Wilfrido Nava of the Federation of River Basin Councils, Director Celso Diaz of the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau, Dr. Ben Eusebio of the Lasallian Institute for the Environment, Ms. Lina Tanjuatco of the Tanay Environment Foundation, and the CLEAR Partners.
