PFCB, now CMN, begun in 1966 when a small group of religious priests gathered together at Villa San Miguel, upon the invitation of Rufino J. Cardinal Santos, to discuss the possibility of working together in the field of radio broadcasting. At that time, Radio Veritas Asia was under construction. One transmitter of fifty thousand watts was being prepared for domestic use. The delegates who met in the cardinal’s home represented religious orders of men, viz.

  • The Oblates of Mary Immaculate in Cotabato
  • The Order of Friars Minor of Negros Oriental
  • The Order of Carmelites of Quezon
  • The Order of Saint Augustine from Iloilo
  • The Congregation of the Immaculate heart of Mary from Baguio
  • The Redemptorist Fathers from Cebu
  • The Society of Jesus from Manila

When Ninoy Aquino was killed at the Manila International Airport during the black years of the Marcos regime in 1983, the principal carriers of his death and funeral were the radio stations of the Federation. The same task of informing the people of the truth fell to the Federation in the stormy days of EDSA revolution.

In the visit of the Pope to the Philippines in 1995 for the celebration of the tenth world youth day, PFCB with 43 stations all over the country became the official carrier of the events that transpired.
