World Wetlands Day should be an occasion to
discover the concrete functions and values of wetlands in the country
and, if possible, in the planetary cycles of climate and water. This
year, the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau (PAWB)
of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in cooperation
with the Society for the Conservation of Philippine
Wetlands, Inc. (SCPW) spearheaded the celebration.
As the interim NGO Focal Point for the country for the Ramsar
Conventions CEPA (communication, education, and public awareness),
the SCPW lined up a series of activities aimed at raising public
awareness on wetland values and benefits in general, and the Ramsar
Convention in particular.
