      the Action Agenda

The National Wetland Action Plan was prepared by the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau (PAWB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) of the Philippines in coordination with the various government agencies, non-government organizations and academic institutions concerned with the use and conservation of wetlands.

The actions presented have been developed through a national Workshop on the Protection and Sustainable Use of Wetlands in the Philippines held in October 1992 at the University of the Philippines in Los Baos, Laguna.

The output of the Workshop was reviewed by the Ad-hoc Committee on Wetlands created under DENR Special Order No. 219 series of 1993.

The series of actions are proposed in response to the various issues confronting the management of Philippine wetlands. The Program areas presented in three components, namely: Policy Review and Formulation, Institutional Development and Strengthening, and Projects. These groupings will provide focus areas for more specific time-bounded plans to be prepared in the future.
